You will find about 13 kilometres (8 miles) from L’Estartit. L’Escala offers a variety of beautiful landscapes and colonies from modern urban settlements directly at the coast, the historic centrer to the medieval village Sant Martí nearby. One of its heritages is the beaches with the fine sand, the shallow water, and the lovely bays. Do not miss to visit the Greek ruins near Empúries that are more than 2.000 years old. In 218 B.C. the Roman forces, guided by Cornelio Escipión, occupied the Greek settlement. In the era of the emperor Augusto both towns were united and named Municipium Emporiae. The settlement was abandoned during the second half of the 3rd century AD.
