Is located some 6 kilometres (4 miles) away from L’Estartit between the Montgrí mountain range and the river Ter. To walk through Toroella is a journey through time. Visitors must see the following highlights: the remains of the walled Torroella, the gateway of Santa Caterina (XI-XIII AD), the tower of Les Bruixes (Witches´ tower, XV-XVI AD), the two symbols of Torroella: the gothic church Sant Genís (XIV-XIX AD) and the castle of Montgrí (XIII AD); and from the 16th and 17th centuries there are La Casa Pastors and La Casa Del Metge in the street Calle Major. Last but not least a further special place to recommend: the colonial style houses built by the Americans which went back to their countries after having made a fortune and that nowadays also belongs to the architectural archive.
